During my travel intermission, I’m gonna just blast posts about what comes from my fingertips. Today – book tings
When I left for NZ my brother bought me a Kindle as a leaving present. Although I have contradictory feelings towards ‘online libraries’ due to my mum being a librarian on a mobile library and hearing a lot about the redundancy threats and potentially doing away with such services that are crucial to others. The Kindle for me is a god send as it allows me to read without having to hold a book, and it’s lightweight so I don’t have to carry the weight of a book in my bag.
Since having this, my catalogue has drastically expanded. Before, apart from the Louise Rennison book run (shout out Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging) I hadn’t ready anything since school. I am extremely picky when it comes to reading, I’m so slow and find it difficult to remember the storyline and therefore get bored easily and sack it off. Nothing really to do with the books, more personal traits.
While away I read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine – bloody brilliant, Marching Powder, The Bell Jar, started The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared but that sadly fell into the trap above, Power – amazing, Wilde Like Me and Wilde About the Girl.
Couple words about Wilde Like Me by Louise Pentland who I also ❤ on youtube. I went through a really tough time for a while in NZ and as ridiculous as I feel typing this, and I don’t really know how to explain it, reading this book was my first experience of being totally immersed in a different world that gave a slight release to how i was feeling. I’m not sure if I’ve even explained what I mean, but would recommend fo’ sho’.
I recently read Everything I Know About Love. 10/10 from me. From starting off set in the good old MSN messenger days to a relatable commentary of life in your 20s and 30s. If you’re maybe not feeling quite like where you want to be with love in life I recommend, and even if you are, it rounds up with such a refreshing perspective that really hit home. So good.
Lastly, Sorry Not Sorry – hilarious. Again v relatable, funny, all the tragic (not in a serious way) moments you have probably experienced in some way in a book. Legit laughed as if it was a story my mate had told me at one point. Good time book (Y).
I’m reading Shantaram rn which will probs take me to age 67 to finish but I heard about it and put it off for so long coz it’s so many pages. If you’ve read it, tell me if it’s worth keeping going coz I’ll need the encouragement.
Anyone else know any others worth a read?
On my list: Wilde Women, The Rosie Project, HPz, 5 People You Meet in Heaven.
Also I have a belter of a theory about kindle ‘time left in chapter’ and how long your Uber will take to get to you. If you know you know hahaaaa, if you don’t know, let me know if you want to know.
Also join an actual library if you can.
