DAMN D A M E

As a female I get a period.

Due to a contraceptive method, I get multiple periods. Average 2 a month.

With CIDP, I have what I refer to as ‘spaghetti fingers’. I can say that, you can’t. (PLZ LOL)

I’ll do my best to spare too much detail in this, but a mooncup isn’t suitable for me to use, and I prefer tampons to pads.

I’m 27 now, I got my period when I was 11, my lil muma was still getting periods when she passed away age 52 so probs going to have a long road ahead of me.

THAT IS SOOOO MUCH PLASTICCCCCC. 😥

Some of my friends use non-applicator tampons which I did for a few years. But the majority of the gals in my friend group are applicator preferees.

Speaking solely for myself, again trying to spare the TMIs.

Non applicator + spaghetti fingers = hit or miss shoving it up.

That’s where I’ll leave it.

Anyhoo, I must talk about periods a lot, and tbf it’s a constant in my life haha, but one day up popped this add on my Insta.

DAME. The first reusable applicator.

I was a bit sceptical at first, and had thoughts of how clean it would be, how weird the concept is, and I pondered for a while and mentioned it to a few friends who also primarily said no thanks.

The more I thought about it and read about it the less weird it got, I mean come on gals. Plus how many times are you really not in a toilet with a sink in the same room.

Everyone has their own preference when it comes to period products, whether it’s comfort or ability. Being able to continue using an applicator but contributing so much less to unrecyclable, non-biodegradable plastic pollution sounds like a win to me.

When I first wrote this post I hadn’t yet used it, I have now…

At first it was tricky, it comes in 2 parts and I admit the first time I did drop half of it down the pan which was keeeewwwwllllll.

But, it has become easier.

I also haven’t yet been in a situation where I couldn’t wash it straight after using. It does come with a lid and a wee bag so I’ve rinsed and dried and put the lid on, or washed and left it separated in the bag to let it dry

It also comes with a little tin shown below, and they do a tampon subscription which are biodegradable and organic so free from toxins.

Let me know what you think. I got mine online but I believe they are now sold in Boots.
